About Me

Hello! My name is Michele Maule, and I'm an artist living in Portland, Oregon with my husband and our Terrier Mix, Frasier — my loyal studio companion who keeps me company through every painting session.

I've been making and selling art for over 18 years, starting on Etsy back when it felt like a cozy little community of makers. After nearly two decades there, I decided it was time to build my own space — a place where I could connect more directly with the people who love my work. You can still read my Etsy reviews here if you'd like to know what past customers have said!

I graduated from Portland State University in 2007 with a degree in art, and the Pacific Northwest has been my muse ever since. Living in Portland means I'm surrounded by the kind of beauty that finds its way into almost everything I make — the misty silhouette of Mt. Hood on a clear day, the sweeping drama of the Columbia River Gorge, the scrub jays and crows that visit my backyard, and the quiet magic of old-growth forests. This place is in my bones, and I hope that comes through in the work.

Most of my paintings start with gouache paint and ink on paper — a medium I love for its rich, velvety color and the way it lets me layer detail on top of bold shapes. Once a piece is finished, I scan it at high resolution and work with professional printers to produce prints, greeting cards, stickers, and calendars that stay true to the original. I also paint in oils when the mood strikes.

My subject matter tends to wander between the natural world and the whimsical. You'll find Pacific Northwest wildlife — wolves, crows, hummingbirds — alongside folklore-inspired characters like Baba Yaga, who I've always been drawn to for her wildness and mystery. I love making art that feels like it belongs in a storybook you haven't read yet.

Thank you so much for being here and for your interest in my work. It truly means the world. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out!
